I shall argue that the Frankfurt School approach to media has some constructive moments but needs to be supplemented by the approach of Stuart Hall and British Cultural studies which engages race, gender, and sexuality in the media and thus expand the FS notion of ideology critique. I shall accordingly first indicate what I find productive in Marcuse and the FS approach to media and ideology and then will lay out the supplement/corrective I find in British cultural studies.
